'Dollhouse' (2.9) “Stop-Loss” – Review
Wed, 12/23/2009 - 10:03 — Karyn Methven
Victor is on a Miss Lonelyhearts engagement, which is really with Adelle. He cannot go through with it as he is in love with another woman, namely Sierra. When he is brought back to the Dollhouse, Adelle is furious with Topher and accidentally reveals herself to be Miss Lonelyhearts. When Victor is blanked from the mission, he immediately asks for Sierra, which solves the mystery for Adelle, much to her chagrin.
Echo is prevented from seeing Paul by Adelle, who has had him moved to a secure location. Meanwhile, Victor is scheduled to go out as his contract is over. Boyd is directed to shift him out. Victor is given back his old personal Anthony, and goes back into the world. He is then immediately captured by pseudo-military men and brought to a place where he is offered a gig as a soldier with a hive-mind.
Adelle
Boyd is told by Topher that Anthony is now missing, and he and Echo figure out what happened. Topher tells Boyd that Anthony needs to get out of there ASAP because they’ll lose him to the hive-mind if he’s integrated for too long. Sierra is brought in to help bring Anthony out of it, and she’s given back her Priya persona. The rescue goes off with the usual hitches, but is ultimately successful. On the way back to the house, Echo stops the car and tells Anthony and Priya to get out and run, as they have each other now. Before they can do that, the disruptor is used on them and they are sent to the Attic.
This was a chocka-block full episode. Almost too much for one ep, but we prevail. I loved the kicking of the ass and the Borg-like emptiness of the soldiers. I was seriously pissed at Adelle for being such a beyotch. I wanted Paul in this episode, but he was busy being a vegetable. Adelle is quite the little drinker. Sure, she sobers up at the end, but for a while there she drinks like a friggin’ fish. Plus, Adelle is very proprietary about the House. She waltzes into the showers and doesn’t seem to care that there are people there. She gets to be a super-bitch when Echo turns back up and spews vitriol at her leisure. Not nice. She sure resents the hell out of Echo.
This was a pretty good episode overall. Although it could really be a two-parter.
