'Fallout 3' Game of the Year Edition Coming

My Xbox 360 hard drive is filled with Bethesda content, such as all the DLC from their most recent hit Fallout 3. If you weren't able to download the releases, however, you were SOL on a lot of good content. Well fret no longer, because Bethesda will be releasing a GOTY (Game of the Year) edition of Fallout 3 for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC, which will not only contain the game, but all the released DLC too. Right now it's currently listed for $59.99 for the PS3 and Xbox 360 releases, and $49.99 for PC with an October 13th release date on both Amazon and GameStop, though that could change.

'Fallout 3' DLC "Mothership Zeta" (Xbox 360) – Review

Reviewing the latest Fallout 3 DLC – Mothership Zeta – is bittersweet, as it's such a fun download it's disheartening to hear that Bethesda doesn't have anymore planned content for the game. It's a quest that will enrage fans for supposedly being outside the realm of the game's mythology, but ultimately it's a rewarding experience thanks to a number of epic moments and some gear that isn't too shabby.

'Fallout 3' DLC "Point Lookout" (Xbox 360) – Review

If you ever found yourself getting turned on during the movie Deliverance when a man is told to squeal like a pig, you'll be right at home with Fallout 3's latest DLC content – Point Lookout – that was just released this week. It's time to leave the battleground of DC and head towards the swamplands of Point Lookout. Inbred monsters, magical fruit, and shotgun toting action await you on your visit.

'Fallout 3' DLC (Point Lookout/Mothership Zeta) - Interview With Joel Burgess & Jeff Gardiner

We're pretty fanatical around these parts when it comes to Fallout 3, as it's one of the games I've been most closely involved in when it comes to covering it throughout its history. I sat in a comfy theater seat to watch Megaton blow-up at its first E3 showing. I came back to E3 the following year to actually be among the first to play it. I've reviewed the game and every installment of its downloadable content.

After hearing the announcement of two more upcoming downloadable packs – Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta – I quickly jumped at the chance to ask the guys at Bethesda what's going-on with the new DLC, talking with Joel Burgess (Lead Designer of Point Lookout) and Jeff Gardiner (Lead Producer for Fallout 3 DLC). Read on to see what they had to say.

New 'Fallout 3' DLC Announced, Plus Coming To PS3

More Fallout 3 content! Check the announcement out...and PS3 fans should especially pay attention as this pertains to you too:

We are pleased to announce that Fallout(r) 3 downloadable content (DLC) is coming to PLAYSTATION(r)3 computer entertainment system. We have been working on implementing it for a while and look forward to bringing it to PS3 gamers via the PlayStation Network. Operation: Anchorage will be released for PS3 in late June, followed by the release of The Pitt and Broken Steel 4-6 weeks apart. Release dates will be forthcoming.

In addition, a new update will be released for PS3 that will allow users to download and play the new DLC. The release date for that update will be announced at a later date.

There are also two new DLCs planned for all three platforms:
    * Point Lookout - Explore a massive new swampland area filled with new quests and content.
    * Mothership Zeta - The aliens have returned, and they're pissed. Experience an alien abduction first hand and find out if you're tough enough to survive.

More 'Fallout 3' DLC Could Be On The Way

I love Bethesda and the work they've done on Fallout 3, so hearing that more DLC could happen in the future warms the cockles of my heart. While future plans aren't set in stones, Bethesda's Pete Hines did say more is always a possibility.

"Whether [Broken Steel is] the absolute last one remains to be seen," he said. "Because it's been hugely successful. Operation Anchorage vastly exceeded our expectation. It was like 'holy shit, we did how many?' and the Pitt was really successful, after a bit of a false start."

'Fallout 3' DLC "Broken Steel" (Xbox 360) – Review

If there's one thing fans really hated about Fallout 3, it was that the ending was pretty crappy, because unlike Oblivion, once the game was done so was your adventuring. Bethesda rectifies that problem with the latest downloadable content for Fallout 3, entitled Broken Steel. In it, you'll pick up the adventure following the end of the game, and off you go to help the Brotherhood of Steel lay the final blow to the Enclave. It's a fun adventure and the best Fallout 3 DLC yet.

    'Fallout: New Vegas' Announced

Bethesda is holding an event right now in London it seems, where one of the big announcements is that they've hired game studio Obsidian to work on a new Fallout 3 game, which won't be a sequel (probably a parallel story). The game is titled Fallout: New Vegas and will presumably take place in Las Vegas.

I love Bethesda and Fallout 3, but the idea of Obsidian (who did the second KOTOR) doesn't fill me with joy.

    Bethesda Trademarks 'Fallout' Name

Bethesda has another hit franchise with Fallout, so it's no surprise that they're looking at capturing the namesake for themselves and transitioning that into not only new potential games, but also movies or a television series.

Or it could merely be steps to keep their franchise safe from anyone who'd want to make crappy products using its name.

'Fallout 3' DLC "The Pitt" (Xbox 360) – Review

Besides a computer simulation that took you up into the cold of Alaska, fans of Fallout 3 have had their adventures confined to the Washington, DC area…until now. When an escaped slave comes looking for a warrior to free his people, it's off to Pittsburgh (now called The Pitt) to lend a helping hand. Is a visit to the land of steel worth your hard earned money?

New Trailer For "The Pitt" - 'Fallout 3' DLC

I hope my broke 360 returns soon, because I don't want to miss out on Fallout 3's upcoming DLC - The Pitt. Here's a brand-new trailer showing off the environment, the enemies, and much more. It looks great. See for yourself:

    'Fallout 3' DLC Delayed

Fallout 3 released its first of three scheduled downloadable content last month, and it was a solid continuation of the retail game. The other two DLCs - The Pitt and Broken Steel - which were supposed to be released in February and then March respectively, have now been delayed. The new release dates have The Pitt coming out in March and Broken Steel in April. An overall month delay isn't bad, but I know fan want them now.

'Fallout 3' DLC "Operation Anchorage" (Xbox 360) – Review

I still feel like I haven't even come close to discovering all the little things about Fallout 3, but that didn't stop me from wanting to gobble up the game's first downloadable content (for the Xbox 360 and PC) entitled Operation Anchorage. Teased throughout the regular game as a major turning point in the history of the United States, for the first time players will actually get to go back in time to experience its events. So is Operation Anchorage a trip worth taking?

'Fallout 3' DLC Makes Me Squeal With Delight

“We’ve always seen the original world of Fallout 3 as a foundation for even more content. Some created by us, and a lot more created by users,” said Todd Howard, game director for Fallout 3. “It’s fun to create your own character, but it can be equally fun to create your own adventures. We can’t wait to see what the community does with the G.E.C.K.”

That's from the press release that announced not only the releasing of the GECK (the tools needed for PC players to create their own content), but also the downloadable content as well. I'm really looking forward to the DLC as Bethesda always makes the best when it comes to quests. Bethesda is really striving for something cool too, as all the DLC sounds great and instant purchases. Here are the DLC synopses:

    * Operation: Anchorage. Enter a military simulation and fight in one of the greatest battles of the Fallout universe – the liberation of Anchorage, Alaska from its Chinese Communist invaders. An action-packed battle scheduled for release in January.

    * The Pitt. Journey to the industrial raider town called The Pitt, located in the remains of Pittsburgh. Choose your side. Scheduled for release in February.

    * Broken Steel. Join the ranks of the Brotherhood of Steel and rid the Capital Wasteland of the Enclave remnants once and for all. Continues the adventure past the main quest. Scheduled for release in March.

    'Fallout 3' (Xbox 360) – Review

It's hard to call Fallout 3 just an RPG. Players still roam around, grab quests, and level up after they've gained enough experience, but it's so much more about the experience and downtime rather than the linear goal that drives you forward. You see, Fallout 3 isn't just an RPG, but rather a life simulator of what it must be like if the world actually did suffer an apocalypse. I've too often found myself slowly shuffling towards a nearby city, my bag packed with so many items I can't run anymore, and a crippled leg holding me back. It's not an easy way of life outside the Vault, having to survive fights with mutants and scrounging all the items I can. I walk towards the salvation of a walled city and must remind myself it's just a game, because if I don't the bleakness starts to eat away at me and I feel the sense of hopelessness that surely plagues the citizens of this new world. It's hard not to be moved by the game. Throughout it all, however, it's still a phenomenal achievement as both an excellent game and benchmark in the history of gaming.
