'Mass Effect 2' Getting New Content and Character
Fri, 03/12/2010 - 13:27 — Jason Van Horn
Bioware is pumping out the content for Mass Effect 2 - a trend that looks to continue when they release a new character and personal quest to the mix. So what's so special about this potential new squad member?
"One of the main attractions of the download is Kasumi, a stealthy female fighter who you can meet up with in the Citadel. After getting her attention and talking to her about the task she wants you to do, she'll become a member of your party. So after you're all done, she'll take up residence on your ship. You can walk into her room, examine all the cool paintings she has on the wall, and fix yourself a drink at the bar. Like Zaeed, another added character through downloadable content, you can't actually engage in full conversation with her, she just talks at you as you wander around her room.
With a dark hook, black eyes, and a cloaking ability, Kasumi is an intimidating character. In battle, she can also pull off the Mass Effect equivalent of a rogue backstab, as she cloaks, moves behind a target, then reappears and whacks the foe in the back of its head with your omni-tool. She'll also offer the ability to toss out flashbangs as a loyalty bonus, and during the mission you'll get a fancy new gun."
'Drage Age 2' Coming In February?
Fri, 03/12/2010 - 13:21 — Jason Van Horn
Do I dare dream that Dragon Age will be getting a sequel come this February? I love the franchise and cant wait until I get my hands on Awakening next week, but beyond the game, reports are that within the expansion is a card using the same Blood Dragon type design, and that it's promoting the date of 2-1-2011. Could this be the first official sequel's release date?
Here is hoping it is a sequel and it carries over your characters and choices much like in Mass Effect.

'Green Day: Rock Band' Releasing June 8th
Fri, 03/12/2010 - 09:29 — Jason Van Horn
My favorite band of all-time is Green Day and Dookie was the first CD I ever bought. Though I've kind of fallen out of love with the rhythm genre of games, I'm such a big fan of the band that it's goig to be a must buy for me when the game releases on June 8th.
'Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes' Coming To XLA and PSN
Fri, 03/12/2010 - 09:19 — Jason Van Horn
Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes was a very fun RPG meets puzzle game for the DS, which had an excellent system and was quite difficult at times. For those who didn't experience the DS game, you'll soon be able to play the game on the Xbox Live Arcade or Playstation Network. It's the same great game, but with HD graphics. Check it out.
Sony Motion Controls Officially Named = Playstation Move
Thu, 03/11/2010 - 08:33 — Jason Van Horn
GDC isn't usually known for showing off a lot of games - that's more a E3 type of thing. That didn't stop Sony from getting a jump on the competition in terms of breaking news, as they held a conference on the opening day of the trade show, in which they announced the official name of the PS3's motion controls - Playstation Move.
I saw the games announced on Attack of the Show yesterday and it looked like...well...the Wii. There's a remote (though with a lighted ball) and a nunchuk (though not wired), but beyond that, there seemed to be a general lag between input and display on the screen. I did think the gladiator fighter looked interesting and could see that system being used for a RPG.
'Super Street Fighter IV' Reveals Final New Character - Hakan
Wed, 03/10/2010 - 09:34 — Jason Van Horn
I main El Fuerte, but after seeing some of the new characters, I'm definitely going to be giving them all a shot. Out of all the ones announced, however, I think I'm going to have to go with the recently revealed Hakan. The idea of kicking Daigo's ass with Hakan's crazy moves is just too much to pass up.
'Battlestar Galactica' MMO Announced
Wed, 03/10/2010 - 09:24 — Jason Van Horn
Take one of my favorite sci-fi series of all-time, mix it with a videogame genre in which I'm always trying to find the next big thing, and suddenly you get an understanding of why I'm so interested in Battlestar Galactica Online.
"The new game will feature tactical space combat and mission-based gameplay."
You'll also be able to apparently play as humans and Cylons. Not a fan of browser-based games in general, but with the series pedigree, hopefully it will be excellent.
'Portal 2' Details Coming Out
Mon, 03/08/2010 - 11:30 — Jason Van Horn
Portal 2 was just announced and already we're getting info on story details and gameplay based on Game Informer's upcoming cover story.
"Portal 2 will, reportedly, take place hundreds of years after the first Portal, resulting in the Aperture Science labs looking like "a jungle." Despite this significant time shift, Portal 2 will still somehow once again star Chell, the first game's protagonist, as the playable character in the single-player game. GlaDOS returns as well, with the (Portal 1 spoiler warning) personality cores you seemingly destroyed at the end of the first game having taken over different areas of the lab.
Meanwhile, as previously revealed, the co-op campaign will be a stand-alone story...that apparently stars two bi-pedal robots. Gameplay-wise, physics will play a bigger role in the puzzles, with one example being using a portal to suck air from a vent in one area into another. There will also be "reflection cubes" that'll be used for laser-redirection puzzles. Game Informer's cover story also confirms that Portal 2 will indeed be a full-fledged game, with Valve comparatively calling Portal 1 a "test bed."
'Scribblenauts 2' Coming This Fall
Mon, 03/08/2010 - 09:42 — Jason Van Horn
It was just revealed that Scribblenauts 2 will be coming to the DS this fall. I thought the original was a promising game, but it had too many flaws - namely the same items could be used to solve many of the levels, but most importantly, the game had some horrible controls. Scribblenauts 2 is sounding promising, however, as they're fixing the controls and adding adjectives to the mix.
"According to GoNintendo's notes from the issue, Scribblenauts 2 will have the sort of additions and improvements you'd expect for a game all about random vocabulary: It'll have a whopping 10,000 new words, 120 "new and improved" levels, improved controls (one of the major complaints with the first game), a new hint system, a fleshed out level editor, and apparently it'll focus heavily on adjectives. That last one could potentially open the gameplay possibilities quite a bit, considering adjectives could be used to modify the things you create. For example, maybe you aren't just able to conjure a T-Rex, but a rotund T-Rex? Or -- could you imagine -- a delighted T-Rex?"
